What's So Great About Johnston
Northern Des Moines suburb, Johnston, has long been a great place to live and raise a family. Over the last few years, Johnston has become one of the most coveted cities in Iowa. Their school district is top-notch. The average household income is high. Crime is low. Finally, there are houses available for nearly every type of shopper.
For starters, Money just recently named Johnston the 16th best place to live in the United States. Movoto said Johnston was the third best place to live in Iowa. And Business Insider has listed Johnston as the 25th best suburb in America.
Families are always on the lookout for things like quality schools, parks, and access to entertainment. Over the last decade, Johnston’s population has nearly doubled. Despite that growth, Johnston’s schools continue to perform well above average. Their graduation rate is nearly 96%, 14 points above the national average.
Johnston is located just minutes away from Saylorville Lake and is connected to, or near to many of the great paths and trails that weave throughout the Des Moines metro. The city of Johnston is currently constructing a new 200-acre park which will include a fishing lake, additional trails, and a lawn for concerts and outdoor events.
Just like other communities across the metro, Johnston has a family-friendly farmer’s market, an annual festival called Kites on the Green, Green Days, and Jazz in July. All these events engage the community and provide a high quality of life.
